Reading

  • yawns while reading

  • loses place frequently

  • complains that eyes hurt or itch

  • turns head or paper at odd angles

  • complains that print blurs while reading

  • reversals: b for d, p for q

  • inversions: u for n, w for m

  • does not hear the difference in sounds

  • does not hear final consonant sounds for what they are

  • even with direct teaching has difficulty with spelling

Math

  • cannot remember steps for math problems such as long division

  • difficulty with word problems and math vocabulary

 

Attention

  • cannot sit still

  • little work in produced

  • reads something correctly but mind is elsewhere and shows up at poor comprehension

  • cannot finish assignment in allowed time

  • mood swings

  • disorganizes losing books, papers, lunch, coat

  • does not follow rules claiming that they didn’t hear them

  • tires easily in scholastic environment

Fine motor skills

  • letters not on a line

  • illegible handwriting

  • letters collide with each other or no space between words

  • cannot keep columns straight in math

  • cannot remember to capitalize, punctuate, skip a line, indent

  • h0lds pencil too tightly/often breaks pencil point or odd pencil grip

  • cannot write within lines
